Our bulletin this week is intended to highlight the importance of keyholders and the reasons why being a nominated keyholder is not a responsibility to be taken lightly.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) document entitled Security Systems Policy 2015; provides a set of regulations that are adopted by companies within the security industry wishing to ensure best practices. As an NSI Gold company, PSM understand these intricate policies and procedures, therefore we have the knowledge and experience to ensure customers receive the highest level of security at all times, on all levels.
The standards highlight that keyholders shall have an understanding on how the alarm system operates, are contactable by telephone, have adequate means of transport to attend the premises at all hours and be able to attend within 20minutes of being notified.
A crucial note to consider is that police officers will not normally attend or enter the premises without a keyholder present. Furthermore, failure to attend when requested may result in withdrawal of police response.
As you can see, it is vital that the right person is chosen for the role of keyholder. It is also important to keep their information up to date, for example, notifying us of the times they may not be contactable (on holiday or off sick for example).
A keyholder may, for example, be in the form of a staff member, family or neighbour (for residential systems); or third party manned guarding response. If you would like recommendations for expert manned response in your area, please do not hesitate to ask.
I hope you have found this bulletin helpful.
