It may sound cynical, but here at PSM we adopt a ‘guilty until proven innocent’ mindset when reviewing CCTV alarm activations.
We invest time and effort into learning our customer’s operations, as this helps us to identify unusual activities.
We recently received an alarm from one of our large industrial clients, in the small hours, of a person in a high visibility vest patrolling the premises. At first glance, the person could easily have been mistaken for staff, especially as the client operations are 24hours; and staff were already working inside the building.
Our Operators knew that, although staff were working on site, they always stay inside certain areas to avoid breaching the detection zones. The knowledge we have, coupled with unrivalled experience and instinct, raised red flags.
Audio warnings were given instantly to alert the intruder they were being monitored. More importantly, we notified the Duty Manager working inside the depot, and alerted them to the possible danger on the doorstep.
The person on site was quickly identified as an intruder, with weapons, who ram raided the perimeter gates to gain entry and attack.
Our intervention not only prevented our customer from being subject to a criminal break in, we are proud to have kept employees safe from harm.
