Prepare your CCTV system for Spring
Owing to the myriad demands of modern living, it’s easy to unintentionally neglect your CCTV system. But the fact remains that cameras and detectors are adversely affected by the changing seasons, and regular checks must be performed to combat the effects wrought by climatic changes. And one is perhaps most reluctant to perform these vital checks during the winter months, when days are cold and the evenings are dark. Then, as spring arrives, any issues brought about by the frosty weather are compounded by the shifting climate.
With this in mind, why not prepare your system for the coming spring and summer by following our tips below?
Insects & Foliage
As spring and summer approach, foliage regrows into detection zones and attracts insects. Spiders in particular like to build their webs in and around cameras. Preen your garden and your clear cameras to minimise false alarms. As a preemptive measure, you might also consider using specially designed insect repellent.
Loose items such as parasols, BBQ covers and general garden equipment can generate excessive false alarms. To maintain your system’s efficiency, please take care to ensure that any loose items are tied securely to prevent blowing in the wind.
System & Lighting Timers
If either your CCTV system or lighting is set by a timer, it’s best to set the times accordingly. For example, if you spend more time away from home during the warmer seasons, it’s probably a good idea to adjust your timer.
To stop your DVR or NVR from overheating (and failing), make sure it receives substantial airflow.
Regular Servicing Increases System Longevity
Consider your CCTV’s service requirements as analogous those of your car. We recommend contacting your installer to perform a service visit if one has not been carried out for 6 months. If you do not have a regular installer, please feel free to contact us – we would be more than happy to introduce you to one of our approved companies.
Wishing you a lovely spring and summertime.
