Reinventing security: How PSM’s CCTV monitoring services are raising the bar

Remote monitoring reinvented isn’t a claim we make lightly. Since day one, we’ve sought new ways to enhance our CCTV monitoring services, look after our team, and improve our clients’ experience. Here are just a few examples of how we’re shaking up the industry.

Custom-built software for superior, intelligent monitoring

Even the most skilled control room operators need cutting-edge technology to deliver superior CCTV monitoring services.

Our entire operation—including alarm monitoring software, customer management systems, and all technology – is controlled, created and developed in-house with our extended team of developers. This allows true bespoke and personal monitoring.

Unlike an off-the-shelf platform, our software is tailored to each property, allowing us to address site-specific challenges and accommodate special requests. It provides live streaming and alerts, giving us faster response times than traditional monitoring methods.

Our experts have an in-depth understanding of our systems—from end-user experience right down to the code. This allows us to provide ongoing maintenance, system health checks, and real-time technical support to keep everything running smoothly.

We’ve spent years purpose-building the most effective software, because we weren’t content with just ‘good enough’ – we wanted to set the gold standard in CCTV monitoring services.

PSM Traces AI – the future of threat detection

False alarms cause operators to spend time and resources resolving non-issues, potentially delaying their response to genuine threats. Our solution? PSM Traces AI – our innovative alarm filtering technology.

When an alarm is activated, our platform identifies whether there’s a person or vehicle present at the scene. If not, and the alarm has been caused by environmental factors like wildlife and debris, it’s filtered out. If there is an active threat, our operators are instantly informed and react accordingly.

By focusing on alarms that matter, we maintain quick responses and improve the security of our customers’ properties – and our technology’s only getting better.

Rewriting the rules on 12-hour shifts

As we discussed in our previous post, 12-hour shifts: the culprit behind workforce burnout, working long hours can take a toll on control room operators’ physical and mental wellbeing. An unhealthy work-life balance often negatively impacts performance – and can even increase the likelihood of errors.

While longer shifts are commonplace in remote monitoring, they can seriously compromise security if operators lose focus. That’s a risk Kerry Jones, CEO, isn’t willing to take. Having spent two decades working in and running CCTV control rooms before founding PSM, she’s seen the dangers of burnout first-hand.

“At the end of a single 12-hour shift, it’s pretty normal to feel fatigued and unable to focus. That’s the way the human brain works.
For a CCTV operator in a monitoring centre, that can be dangerous, because focus and attention to the information presented to them is the job. If we miss a criminal incident because of fatigue, that means the security system the client is relying on isn’t working. The operator is the link between the technology and the police. They’re a key component of the whole system.”
Kerry Jones | Co-Founder & CEO of PSM

Backed up by UK government guidance

Kerry’s experience is backed up by UK government guidance on designing CCTV control rooms. According to the National Protective Security Authority, 12-hour shifts represent a greater risk of errors and accidents when compared with shorter working hours, and there may be a benefit to limiting shifts where safety is critical.

At PSM, shifts are either 7, 8, or 9 hours long, and never more than four in a row. It doesn’t just keep our operators sharp, but means they’re happy, healthy, and look forward to coming to work. By taking care of our team, we make sure they take care of our clients.

Making security personal

Protecting our clients’ businesses, homes, and livelihoods is a responsibility we take seriously. Our service can be the difference between someone sleeping soundly or having a restless night, so we always take the extra step to provide reassurance.

If a client ever feels like something isn’t right, one phone call to our team is all it takes to put their mind at ease. And because accountability is everything to us, we record our screens so we can show how every alarm is handled.

Behind every premises is a person, and PSM will always put people first.

Looking forward

At PSM, we never get too comfortable or complacent. We’re constantly finding ways to enhance our CCTV monitoring services, future-proof our operations, and engage with our clients and team – and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.

“I couldn’t live without PSM’s service. I thought it would be intrusive at first, but it isn’t. When my daughter comes home from school and sets the system once inside, she has a security barrier around her. I know she is safe and protected.”
