What is now a 24/7 CCTV monitoring station started life as an empty railway arch. This is the story of how PSM transformed an empty shell into the operational heart of the business.
For Co-founder and CEO Kerry Jones, the railway arch represented an opportunity to create something different.
Having helped establish the business alongside an investor and co-founder, Andy Saile, Kerry set out to build a monitoring company focused on quality, strong relationships and long-term service.
Alongside Kerry and Andy was a dedicated team of employees, friends and family members who helped transform the empty railway arch into the foundations of what PSM would become.
Andrew Knox was also part of the journey from day one. Having joined during the company’s earliest days, he played an important role in helping establish the monitoring operation and would later progress to become Operations Director.
Transforming the railway arch into a monitoring station involved far more than creating office space.
As a facility responsible for protecting customers around the clock, security and resilience were considered from the outset. Multiple layers of physical and electronic security were incorporated throughout the site, alongside robust infrastructure, backup systems and strict access controls designed to support a 24/7 operation.
With the foundations in place, the transformation could begin. Internal walls were erected, flooring was installed and the empty shell gradually started to resemble the monitoring centre it would eventually become.
The railway arch was no longer just a building. It was becoming the future home of PSM.
Workstations were installed. Systems were commissioned. Procedures were developed, tested and refined.
What had once been an empty railway arch gradually became a fully operational CCTV monitoring station.
The hard work was done.
Now it was time to deliver the service the company had set out to create.
As the business grew, PSM found themselves constantly adapting to new challenges, new customers and new opportunities. The team expanded, customer requirements became increasingly sophisticated and the monitoring station continued to develop alongside them.
Throughout that growth, the railway arch remained at the heart of the business.
It became home not only to the monitoring centre itself, but also to the culture and values that continue to shape PSM today.

Ten years later, the monitoring station looks very different from the one that opened its doors in 2016.
The technology has advanced.
The team has grown.
The business has evolved.
Yet the ambition that drove its creation remains exactly the same.
To provide professional monitoring supported by exceptional people, strong relationships and a commitment to doing things properly.
While the railway arch provided the foundations, it was the people behind PSM who made it what it is today.
From the early days through to today, Kerry, Andrew and the wider team have played an important role in shaping the business and the culture that continues to define PSM.
And after ten years, the story is still being written.

A look back at the people, milestones and moments that helped shape PSM’s first decade.

“I couldn’t live without PSM’s service. I thought it would be intrusive at first, but it isn’t. When my daughter comes home from school and sets the system once inside, she has a security barrier around her. I know she is safe and protected.”
